Let's play money making game!

In the wake of the success of Seanbaby's NES Page (see Links), a number of similar sites have emerged, and the page you are at now is one of them.  I find no shame in blatantly hopping onto this bandwagon, as I feel I have at least something interesting to add to it.   Moreover, a great many of Seanbaby's admirers are a little bit unhinged, and seem to spend most of their time concocting ill-advised anti-Christian nonsense under the misguided assumption that Seanbaby is some sort of hatemonger and will reward their efforts with a fief or title of nobility.  This tends to distract from the incisive video-game-inspired wit, so I've eschewed all of this in favor of a page that, while it rarely succeeds, at least attempts to just be a funny little site about video games.

But anyway - the point is that, on some level, video game humor resonates with us geeks.  But why, exactly?  In an attempt to resolve this debate, I began seeking out Nintendo screenshots from my collection and from friends' that made me laugh.  I stumbled upon a few rough patterns, and ultimately my conclusion is that we laugh at absurd NES dialogue because, deep down, we still harbor bitter frustration and resentment from trying to puzzle out these bloody games when we were still kids.  Faced with the bitter memory of spending hours seeking the "eastmost penninsula," we must either laugh or cry.  I choose to laugh, and that's why I now add my voice to the chorus of video game nostalgia/gag sites, with props and respect to those who have gone before.

The page is organized (?) into five sub-sections, divided up not because it gives more sense to the text, but because it reduces load times (these are some image-intensive pages).  I identify the pages by what games I talk about, though in a lot of cases I just use the games as springboards to talk/ramble stupidly about some more general trend in the video game world.  Without further ado, then:

Section I: Zombie Nation, Shadowgate, Rygar

Section II: Simon's Quest, Astyanax, Legend of Kage

Section III: Arkanoid, Crystalis, Earthbound Zero

Section IV: River City Ransom, Skinhead Fighter, Monster Party

Section V: Mission Impossible, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Jackal
