The Wide Window (A Series of Unfortunate Events #3), by Lemony Snicket
published 2000 - read 2004

It's been a long time since I touched this series, and I'm not even sure I ever finished book #2 (The Reptile Room), but it's not like it's hard to pick up what's going on in these things.  The best gimmicky character this time is a phobiaphile aunt, who is terrified of everything in her house.  Everything else was pretty fun, nothing to write home about though.  The joy of these books is mostly in the clever wordplay, and seeing how the same thing happens again in a new guise.  The Wide Window pretty much delivers the goods.
