Almost Babes

The characters described here are not runners-up in any way to the main babes. No, these are characters who, despite having many babelike qualities, just didn't quite make it into my set of Babe qualifications. To make it simple, here's a quick list of those qualifications:

1. Must be ink-and-paint characters from a Japanese anime.
2. Must be physically attractive.
3. Must be desireable by me for a romantic relationship (ie, good personality, right age, etc).
4. Must be conceivably capable of being interested in me.

The Almost-Babes, typically, fit 2 and 3, but not 1 and/or 4. A runner-up, on the other hand, would fit all categories, but not be quite as high in 2 or 3. And a non-babe simply does not score on 2 and 3.

Those who make objections about how these qualifications are subjective should reread the information provided on good and bad taste offered on the main page. Those who are not interested in women should start their own babes pages (really, I'm serious).

Now, the list.

Haruka Ten'ou/Sailor Uranus is aggressive but kind, always a great babe combination. She also gets bonus points for being a Sailor Senshi and having a cool attack to boot (World Shaking is the best, straight up). And then there's the physical details --- she's got Yui's hair <melt> and really the best figure of the Outer Senshi. Problem? She's got one of the worst cases of being unilkely to be interested in me I've ever seen! Although she does have a flirty side, she is most definitely 'taken,' and, as if that didn't shoot her down as a possibility, she's a lesbian. I have enough dignity to admit when I have absolutely no chance...

Daria Morgendorffer (left) and Jane Lane (right) are both intelligent, witty, and reasonably attractive... Jane has the bonus of being the artistic type, while Daria generally seems the somewhat more intelligent one. Both have a quality nearly all babes lack --- a profound understanding of the tastes and difficulties of the American teenager, particularly the intelligent subspecies of such. There are very, very few babes that can claim to share my tastes in music and pop culture, but these girls both have it going on. So what's the problem? Their show is made in America, not Japan. Oh well.

Kim Rosenthal is who I conceived this page for. Very smart and quite sexy to boot. Yes. Her vague resemblance to Nabiki is also noted, as well as her pop-culture mentality (her first word was Big Mac, for example, and her favorite food is skittles). And she's a computer junkie? Massive babe alert. Problems, then? Well, she's very very taken of late, and, more importantly (in the long run) she's a character in the daily syndicated US comic strip Doonesbury, not a Japanese animated character. Blast!
